The meeting was
called to order
by State
President John
Rudnick, MT at
1:24pm.
Motion made by Gwen Thompson, MT and Arlene DeCarli, MT to accept the minutes as previously distributed and reviewed. Motion passed.
Cathie DeGustino sent information on the Skip Skinner Uniformed Services Award, Outstanding Student Award, Student Writing Award, and an AMT Updated geared towards students.
Janet Criegler sent a letter requesting feedback on the attached Practice Levels and Educational Needs for Clinical Laboratory Personnel White Paper dated June 21, 2007 in regards to MLT’s performing tasks usually performed by MT’s.
Carol Yankovich, MT reports that a new bill (Competitive Bidding Demo) states labs must bid to Medicare on 303 procedure codes under the current lab schedule and Medicare will award based on volume. There is another bill (H.R.3453 and S.2099) which was introduced to repeal it. It’s recommended to write to your senators to support the repeal because it may drive small labs out of business. In New York, ASCP is the only accepted certification; AMT was not able to defeat this. The state of New Hampshire proposed a bill that all medical assistants be regulated under the nursing department. AMT has been taken into concern and they are making revisions.
Melissa Martin, RMA reported the McCann School had Good Morning America there to tape them and a luncheon was given to the students on Wednesday of National Medical Assistant Week.
Gwen Thompson, MT reviewed the Bylaws and there are currently no changes

Pearson-Vue: now
offering exams
in the schools.
PAMET: Philippines group similar to AMT, has invited AMT to attend their national meeting in Manila. Chris Damon is going to attend.
Membership statistics: As of September 30, 2007, there are 41,268 members compared to last year’s 38, 890. There is an increase of MT, MLT, RMA, RPT, CMAS, AHI disciplines which shows that AMT is growing. Report attached.
National board appointed 2 district councilors; Great Lakes-Clara Boykin, MT and Western District-Barbara Ware, MT.
Surveys with postage paid replies are about to be sent to members of the societies that sent out their state newsletters via email or website. Deadline to return surveys is November 30, 2007.
Membership renewals are now being sent out in cycles.
90+1 has been phased out as October 1, 2007.
AMT national office now has copies of all state charters.
Debra Smeal, MT had previously proposed a SOP change to add ‘prior’ to the SOP, Section 8, Delegates to the Annual Business Meeting, to state ‘within thirty (30) days prior to the current year state business meeting. There was discussion and agreement to make the change.
Nominations for National Awards:
